How to Keep Track of Gifts: Ideas, Given, and Received

You know the moment. It's March, you're in a conversation, and your friend mentions offhand that their favorite mug finally broke — the one they bought in Lisbon and genuinely loved. That's a perfect gift idea. Their birthday is in November.

By November, it's gone.

Gift tracking is the simple practice of writing these things down somewhere they'll resurface — attached to the person, not buried in a notes app you'll never search. That's what Gifts in YourPond does.

Three kinds of gifts, one place

Every gift you track lives on a person's profile and is one of three types:

Ideas. The mug from Lisbon. The book they mentioned twice. The concert tickets you thought of in the shower. Capture the idea the moment it happens, with an optional occasion ("Birthday," "Christmas") so it's waiting for you when the date gets close.

Given. What you've already given someone — so you never give the same thing twice, and you remember what landed. ("The candle was fine. The hand-written recipe book made her cry. Noted.")

Received. What someone gave you. Partly for gratitude, partly for practicality: when their birthday comes around, you can see what they got you and match the thought they put in.

Each gift takes a few seconds to add — a title, an optional occasion, an optional note, and a date if you want one. No required fields slowing you down mid-thought.

The thank-you note you actually send

Here's the part we're most proud of: when you log a gift you've received, YourPond offers to create a thank-you reminder. Check the box, pick a date, and you'll get a nudge to send the note.

Everyone intends to send thank-you notes. The people who actually do aren't more grateful — they just have a system. Now you have one.

Why gifts belong in your relationship tracker

A gift is never really about the object. It's proof you were listening. Keeping gift ideas next to everything else you know about someone — their preferences, their pets, the moments you've shared — means the listening compounds. You stop scrambling in the week before an occasion and start noticing all year.

That's the whole point of YourPond: be the friend who remembers.
